Thank you for this great summary of the takeaways from the event. The operator gap is one I’m keen to explore further and you’ve hit the nail on the head about what’s needed here. Imagine the impact if we applied some of the same actions to deepening operational capacity for the creative industries as was done for tech (including fin-, ed- etc).
Another thing I’m reflecting on is how across these three strands, the common factor is the need for stronger institutional support and action. I’m looking forward to seeing how this seed of cross-border knowledge exchange on the creative economy will blossom!
Thanks so much David and team for creating a safe space for African creatives to have intelligent and honest dialogue. The event was refreshing and dynamic and so glad to have been in attendance. Agreed on the need for more data and I think Stears is doing a good job and could be one to partner with.
Also @David have you heard of NewComma, the social and HR platform for African creatives? I can put you in touch with the founders and see if there’s synergy with what you do with Communique.
I thought you were going to expand on point 3 to also account for the spending power and economic context of the "Diaspora" Eg. How much disposable income does a middle class millennial in London have compared to their counterparts in Lagos, Nairobi, Accra within the same economic bracket.
How many of the diaspora have significant disposable incomes to drive economic activity
Contrasted with the amount of tourism and economic activity we are seeing from the World Cup for visitors.
Thank you, sir! That's the gap that we need data for. Much of what is available is remittance spend, and that's not very useful in this context. But we are having those conversations with potential partners already.

Very well said! Some conversations are ongoing already, but I hope the event (and this piece) will catalyse more of them.

Thank you for the kind words, Catherine. Yes, I know New Comma and am connected to Natalie. Thanks for the highlight!
Oh perfect ☺️
Congratulations on hosting this and sharing.
