Announcing the Communiqué Editorial Bootcamp
An intensive training programme designed to equip journalists and writers with the skills to cover Africa’s media, cultural, and creative industries.
In 2022, we launched the Communiqué Learning Circle (CLC) as a fully remote learning community designed to help young people build serious careers in media, communications, and content. The goal was to create a structured space where emerging professionals could understand the digital ecosystem, learn the business models that power the media and creative industries, and connect directly with practitioners doing the work at the highest level.
The Communiqué Learning Circle was a huge success. Since completing the programme, members of the CLC have gone on to work across media, communications, investment, and technology companies. Two have worked with us, and one is on our leadership team. The impact of the Learning Circle confirmed what we suspected. There is an urgent need for structured, intellectually serious training for young people who want to operate at the highest levels of the media and creative economy.
The Communiqué Editorial Bootcamp is the new and improved version of that vision. It is an intensive training programme designed to equip journalists and writers with the skills to cover Africa’s media, cultural, and creative industries with rigour.
At Communiqué, we believe that covering the media and creative industries across Africa requires analytical thinking, business literacy, a strong writing discipline, and the ability to connect culture to economics. This bootcamp is designed to train participants to do exactly that.
Over eight weeks, beginning in April, selected participants will learn how to identify the economic story inside cultural developments, decode business models in media and creative industries, write with clarity and authority, report with depth, and produce strong opinion pieces and profiles grounded in facts.
This is not a general writing workshop. It is a specialised programme designed for those who want to understand how Africa’s digital and creative ecosystem actually works and how to report on it to the highest standard.
What the bootcamp offers
Participants will receive:
Structured modules covering systems thinking, business models, analytical writing, and in-depth reporting.
Workshops and live sessions with experienced editors and industry operators.
Practical assignments with editorial feedback.
Case studies drawn from real developments in Africa’s creative economy.

Access to the broader Communiqué Media network.
The programme is fully remote, and each cohort will consist of a small group of highly motivated participants to ensure high-quality interaction and personalised feedback.
